It’s been a while since I last blogged, so I thought I would give you a little life update on what’s been going on.
Life has a funny way of throwing you some curve balls, and the past month has felt a bit bi-polar with some extreme highs and really bad lows.
I will start positive and look at all the life highs that have happened over the last month or so.
It’s a bit of a long one, so grab yourself a cuppa and a sweet treat first.
On the 28th March, my sister gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. She is my first niece and from the moment I saw her picture I was instantly in love with her. I went down to see the family over the Easter weekend, and spent some much needed time with everyone. It was a hectic weekend, and boy did I need a break when I got home! Whilst we were down there, we went up to Dunstable Downs for a walk and to fly a kite
We used to go there when we were kids, although I don’t remember it. The views are incredible, and if you are lucky you can watch the para-gliders taking off from the top of the Downs. We took a picnic with us and walked along the downs.
It’s the perfect place to fly a kite – and they were a heck of a lot of families with kites. It’s nice to see that some things never change in life – and flying a kite is still something kids enjoy doing. Word of caution though, don’t buy a kite from poundland as it will disintegrate as soon as you try and fly it. #FAIL
Discovering new places
We went to Phil’s best friend’s 40th birthday party at Cirque Manchester. I’ve never been here before, and it’s a bit out of the city centre so not somewhere we would usually go.
Cirque is a private members club that runs burlesque and fetish nights. However, it does not feel seedy or dirty when you are inside. Tastefully decorated and lots of nooks and crannies to explore. On the entry level there is a bar and and seated area where the DJ is set up. Upstairs is a further bar and seated area. Downstairs is the dungeon – yes dungeon. For any 50 Shades fans, there is an actual red room. Of course we went and had a look around!
The masks you can see in the 2nd picture are the actual masks from 50 Shades Darker – fun fact for you all.
There was a burlesque dancer who entertained us throughout the evening with a couple of performances – she was fab and really engaged with everyone.
If you are looking to private hire somewhere in Manchester a bit different, I would recommend Cirque. We all went dressed up (1920’s & Burlesque), and the atmosphere was brilliant.
I have a new job! After just under 5 years, I will be leaving my current place of employment and joining a company based in the city centre. This was a little unexpected as I was not actively looking for a new position However certain things had started to frustrate me in my current role. The new job is in a completely different sector to where I am now, however it is a sector I have worked in before. My new colleagues all seem amazing, and I have had lots of messages from them welcoming me to the company before I have even started.
I leave where I am on the 12th May, and start at the new place on 15th May – it’s coming up really fast and am starting to get really nervous! Am sure that it will all be fine. I am confident that I made the right decision and this position will provide me with the growth and development I now need.
Here is a sneaky peak of the new office which is right in the heart of the city centre.
Ok, here we go.
I have supported 2 friends through some heartbreaking times throughout March and April. I won’t talk about them as they are not my stories to tell. One was dealing with a decision made that had a devastating effect on the family. The other had to make a decision that would change their lives as they knew it. My heart breaks for both of these friends, and I just hope they know that I am always there for them.
Next up, I have been really poorly. It started after Easter as a cold but gradually got worse and worse. I actually had to call in sick which is a first – in 5 years my only time off sick has been hospital related. The cold turned into a fever, which has turned into congested sinuses. GP says it’s viral so nothing I can do. I now have a steroid spray and decongestant spray for my nose to help relieve symptoms.
Now you might be thinking, everyone get’s viruses so just get on a deal with it. Right? Yeah well I am one of those people too! I never get ill – and when I get a cold I just deal with it and carry on as normal. But this has floored me. It’s been nearly 2 weeks now and just need it to go away so that I can get on with my life.
Shit hit the fan
On top of this, Phil lost his job. It’s shit. Really really shit. Going from a 2 income household to a 1 income household is hard. We were in no way well off before, but we could get through the month, and things like short breaks away and starting to save for a wedding were feasible. Now all of that has gone down the shitter.
We are going to fight the decision, as it looks like unfair dismissal, and certain processes have not been followed. It will be a long and stressful journey. He is looking for work, but as soon as you mention ‘dismissed’ agencies basically just hang up and you never hear from them again. To make it worse, he is really fucking good at what he does, and has spent the last 5 years working damn hard to increase his prospects. I’m not sure how the next few months are going to play out, time will tell I guess but it’s going to be bloody difficult.
We are going to have to cut back on some luxuries – reduce our TV package to the minimum, start planning meals to save money on food etc. If anyone has any tips on this please let me know!
So yeah, there you have it. The last 2 months of my life in a nutshell.
For the time being, I’m going to change my blogging schedule to once a week on a Sunday. There is a lot going on and I just need to take that pressure off a bit. There may be the odd unscheduled post if something is happening worth blogging about.
That’s all for now though.
